Installation Guide
- Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
- Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
- Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
- Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
- WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
- WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
- StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
- Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
- Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
- Start World of Warcraft
- Make sure AddOns are installed
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.
Translations
When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".
TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)
When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.
If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support
WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

bascogadh saidI use my work computer when I'm at work and my home computer when at home, but the gathering points are stored on each one separately. So when I use the other computer those points don't show up. I need to copy all the gathering points from one computer to another. Where is this data stored? I tried to mark and send the nodes to myself, but it doesn't work. Please help.

Nechckn saidBascogadh,
That only will work from one logged in character to another, who both have the sharing interface active at the same time.
Gatherer stores the nodes in ..\WorldofWarcraft\Interface\Account\<Your_WoW_Account_Name>\SavedVariables\Gatherer.lua

Nechckn saidNucleas71,
If you do not see Gatherer in the main WoW Addons Manager, then something went wrong while you were installing.
Just below the orange bar, above, that says "About Gatherer", click on the "Install Guide" tab- that explains step-by-step the actions you must take.
Download the zip pack, unzip to a new folder on your desktop called "AddOns", and then move the two unzipped folders, named Gatherer and GatherHUD, to ..\WorldofWarcraft\Interface\AddOns directory. Then verify that you see Gatherer and GatherHUD as option in the main WoW AddOns Manager, accessed by clicking the Addons button in the lower left of the Character Selection Screen- ensure that both have gold marks in their check boxes.

bascogadh saidHave you uninstalled it yet? If not do so, then save (not run) the program to a "My Mods" folder on your desktop (you have to make the folder). Once you do that, unzip the files, copy, then paste them to C:/programfiles/worldofwarcraft/interface/addons.

bascogadh saidDo you have the box "Load Out Of Date Addons" marked? If so, then delete the files and download them again. Make sure you download to "My Mods" on desktop and then copy to the addons folder. Then try again. I had to do the same thing a couple of times, but finally worked.

Balechnay saidI love gatherer, but how do I turn off the ghost overlay that sits beside the chat window? It's quite distracting.

Nechckn saidBalechnay,
Think you could mean the HUD- in the Gatherer settings you can move that to anywhere on the screen or disable it altogether.

Nechckn saidMac4719,
That should work... really not sure, off hand.
Can you upload a few Screenshots of the report you are seeing, with one box, the next, and finally all three "checked"?
WoW attempts to capture all Screenshots in the ..\WorldofWarcraft\ScreenShots directory. Find them and upload them to [http://Up.Norganna.Org our file server] and then add the link assigned by the software to a followup post. You can upload them separately or as a zip or 7zip formatted archive, your choice.
A new Gatherer version is just about ready for "prime time" and that has a really great search as one of the main enhancements.
Keep an eye out for the update,
Nikk

For that, perhaps one of the many note-making addons would be a better match- Notes-U-Need is a good one that requires no extra map addon.

Leonhearth saidGood addon, been using it almost since the game started.
However 1 feature it lacks, the ability to show and track anvils and forges... If its even possible.

Bisochim saidJust wanted to let you know that I love the add-on. I had been using GatherMate for a long time a friend talked me into trying your add, i am happy to report that it is great. Comparing the reports from both i have concluded that "Gather" collect a few things more and with a better report style. AGAIN GREAT PROGRAMING DUDE KEEP IT UP.

We do what we can and appreciate your comments.
Actually helped the GatherMate folks get their HUD working, so it is not really a competition, just different viewpoints.
Thank you,

questage saidAnyone know if there is an updated database file?

Nechckn saidQuestage,
We only update the database when putting out a new build.
So, there will be no update until the next build which could be a while since there are no outstanding issues.
Just a few things to keep in mind- the databases are only intended as starting help for new folks or those who lose a database for one reason or another. Simply gathering items will get you a much more complete database than anything we can put together until Blizzard releases their node data- and they have been emphatic that they will never do that.
